Release Notes

June 2010

New Features

  • Community Moderator
    • A user assigned to a community phase acts as a moderator, whose votes and translations are automatically accepted.
  • Phase Ready Options
    • You can now set a phase so that it won't become available until the previous phase is complete.
  • Project Sharing Options
    • You can now choose whether or not to share your list of assigned translators when you share a project.
  • Flagged Translator Report
    • Community Admins can now see a report of the translations that have been flagged.
  • Cassandra Migration
    • We have moved our document storage system to Cassandra, for increased stability and scalability
  • Improve Third-party authentication
    • We worked with some of our partners to make authentication easier and more secure
  • Pause/Hide a phase
    • Project managers can hide a phase if they want translators to be unable to work on it.

Bugfixes

  • Improved highlighting for CJK languages on community phases.
  • Fixed invitation email so that it sends the correct email, and saves the email that you created.
  • Allowed for community phases to be set to 0 votes.
  • Fixed project report stats when some segments were hidden.
  • Fixed a few display bugs.

April 2010

  • Implemented logger to track actions
    • In the future, this should allow us to create reports and track statistics much more easily.

Bugfixes

  • Incorrect password page now takes you back to the right community

  • Moved Acceptance Criteria to project level
    • The number of votes needed to accept a translation on a community phase can now be set on the project details page.
  • Reverse Search in target gadget
    • Right-click a translation to do a reverse TM search
  • Community Admins can now see all of the community projects on the Dashboard and Projects pages.
  • Improved algorithm for the percent complete on Community phases.
  • Added new Next button options to LingoDex

February 2010

New Features

  • We made some major improvements to the Community Review Interface.
    • Voting now saves both positive and negative votes.
    • You can now edit your own translation. If you change a translation that has votes, it will reset the votes.
    • The differences between the first translation and the other translations are highlighted, to make it easy to quickly see what has changed.
  • Added support for Comma-Separated Value (.csv) files.
  • Began work on a Drupal module.
  • Improved some Community Admin Translator Report
  • Added support for PM-managed teams

    • This new version of our Translator Workbench is faster, and will allow us to introduce a number of collaborative translation features.

New Features

  • UserVoice community set up for user bugs and feedback (at http://lingotek.uservoice.com)
  • Event system put into place
    • We improved the way that we capture what happens on Lingotek, to prepare the way for a number of new features.
  • TM Inverting
    • You can now choose to invert the TM from your vaults. This will duplicate the TM, and reverse the language pairs, so that an English > French TM would create a French > English TM.
  • PDF Export now available for all document types

  • CJK language search on the TM Management page is now working
  • Fixed some issues that could occur when segments are merged.

September 2009

New Features

  • Star Rating on TM results
    • Translators can now rate the quality of a TM hit. These ratings are saved, and shared with others who see the same hit.
  • Improved Project Settings sidebar
    • We rearranged the project settings sidebar to make it easier to navigate and understand.
  • Improved MT Autofill
    • Machine Translation results can now be inserted into a document at any point in the process - even after translation has begun.
  • Improved Paging
    • Large numbers of projects and documents should load much more quickly.
  • Expanded Profile
    • Translators can now include their location and Area of expertise. In the future, we will use this information to help match up translators with content.

Bugfixes

  • Document analysis was incorrect if some segments were removed in the segment chooser.
  • TM files with self-closing tags were not importing correctly.
  • Adding a project manager works again.
  • RTL language support fixed in versions tab
  • Google MT results pasted escaped versions of HTML entities


August 2009

New Features

  • CSV Download
    • On the Document Details page, you can now choose to download a CSV file of the source and target segments side-by-side.
  • New Project Advanced Options
    • The project creation page now has an advanced options button, which lets you choose TM Vaults, dictionaries, etc. to add to a project.
  • PDF download in LingoDex
    • The File menu in LingoDex now allows the translator to download a PDF of the source or target of a document.
  • PDF Importer
    • PDF documents can now be imported into Lingotek, translated, and exported as text files.
  • Team Assignment
    • A phase can now be assigned to a specific team, rather than an individual.
  • Community Projects
    • Community Admins can now make a project a Community Project, which means that individual project managers can choose to manage one or more language pairs for the project.
  • Improved Community Admin reports
  • Improved Team Management Interface
  • Contacts can now be exported as a CSV file

Bugfixes

  • LingoAlign jnlp was not opening.
  • Fixed bug where document names with apostrophes caused problems.
  • Search box no longer shows browser autocomplete.
  • Made a number of minor interface improvements.


July 2009

New Features

  • gettext PO files can now be imported into and edited in Lingotek.
    • When you upload a PO file that has bilingual data, you can choose to import the target data into Lingotek.
  • Added Project Page
    • The Project tab now brings you to a page that lists all of your active and closed projects, and lets you choose the project that you want to work on.
  • Improved Project Details page
    • We moved all of the project settings into one box, on the left-hand side, and uncluttered the interface.
  • Add context to Review Interface
    • The Community Review Interface now allows you to view a few additional sentences as context.
  • Improved Team Interface
    • Each team will now have a team captain, who can change the team picture, team description, etc.
  • OpenSocial gadgets in LingoDex
    • A twitter gadget and a chat gadget have been added to LingoDex. Go to http://lingotek.uservoice.com to let us know what other gadgets you would like to see.
  • Project Analysis
    • Project managers can now run analysis on an entire project. This will return cross-document repetitions, as well as a summary of the TM Vault matches for each of the target languages in the project.
  • Improved API calls
  • Added Microsoft MT to LingoDex

Bugfixes

  • Sentence segmenter was missing some tags and content with MS Word documents. Not anymore.
  • Improved Community Admin reports
  • Save and Close button didn't always save the last segment worked on. It now does.
  • Stats were not being tracked for all users.
  • Find/replace in LingoDex now works for all Unicode characters.
  • Search box now doesn't let the browser try to autocomplete.


June 2009

New Features

  • Next segment with Note
    • In the Notes tab of LingoDex, you can now find each of the segments with notes.
  • Assign Translator to multiple documents
    • The Projects page now allows you to assign a translator to multiple documents at once.
  • View XML files as PDF
  • Upload zipped documents
    • You can now add zip files to a project, as long as all of the documents are of the same file type.
  • Added breadcrumbs
    • Many of the pages on the site can now be navigated with breadcrumbs
  • Improved community reports
  • Stemming matches for dictionary searches
    • LingoDex will now search for the stemmed version of dictionary entries. For example, the term "running" would find the dictionary results "run", "running", and "runner".
  • Saving preferences
    • We now save a number of preferences, including the number of documents per page, whether dialogs are expanded, etc.
  • Download All Targets on document page
  • Added RTF support to LingoAlign
  • Improved sentence segmenter

Bugfixes

  • Race condition on document details page fixed
  • Project Managers now see only documents/projects for the current community
  • Footnote reference numbers in .doc files are now hidden in LingoDex.
  • Some elements were draggable that shouldn't have been.
  • Improved Profile page


May 2009

New Features

  • Translator Teams
    • Translators can create and join translation teams.
  • Vault Sharing
    • Any of your vaults can be marked as Public vaults, and shared across Lingotek communities.
  • Community Score
    • The community leaderboard displays a score which takes into effect segments translated, reviewed, voted on, etc.
  • Project Manager Notifications
    • Project managers can view a list of documents that are behind schedule, not being worked on, etc. by going to the Alerts in the Quick Links dropdown.
  • Autopaste Google MT
    • Project managers can choose to autopaste the Google machine translation into their document for supported language pairs.

Bugfixes

  • The paste from source button was not escaping some HTML characters
  • Flags on a TM are removed if the translation is edited
  • Existing users who sign up for a different Lingotek community are now automatically added to that community
  • Removed support for .docx files
    • We found some problems with our .docx importer, and we decided to temporarily remove support for this format until we feel comfortable that our importer is working correctly.

April 2009

New Features

  • Dictionary Translation
    • From the dictionary page, you can now translate dictionaries into new languages.
  • Autopaste terminology
    • If one of your source segments is an exact match of one of the entries in a terminology dictionary, then it will be autopasted when you analyze or translate a document.
  • Larger source pane in LingoDex
  • Terminology can be clicked to be added to translation
  • Terminology Management Interface
    • TMs that you own can be searched and edited
  • Project creation page lets you add all vaults at once.
  • Customization options for Community Administrators

  • Added support for non-breaking characters
  • Improved LingoDex help documentation
  • Removed .zip extension from PDF download

March 2009

New Features

  • Community TM Vaults
    • Community Admins can now share their TM Vaults with their entire community.
  • Google MT can now be toggled
    • The Google MT in LingoDex can be turned off for your translators by going to the project page, opening the TM Vault dialog box, and unchecking "Google MT".
  • Created a UserVoice account at http://lingotek.uservoice.com
    • UserVoice allows our users to create and vote for future product features.
  • Documents can be reanalyzed
    • After document analysis is complete, a project manager can choose to analyze the document again.


Bugfixes

  • Phases that have been started cannot be edited or deleted
    • In order to avoid a few bugs that appeared when a partially complete phase was deleted, partially complete phases can no longer be deleted.
  • Improved caching
    • Some of our pages were not caching JavaScript and images. Those have been corrected, and the interface should be more responsive.

February 2009

New Features

Terminology display in LingoDex
  • Created "Terminology" dictionaries
    • On the dictionary page, a dictionary can be marked as a Terminology Dictionary. These dictionaries are displayed on the main tab in LingoDex, and are not editable by translators.
  • Created Phase Templates page to manage Phase Templates
    • This page can be accessed by Project Managers in the Quick Links menu.
  • Added Target PDF download
    • When the PM marks "Allow PDF" on the Document Details page, then translators can download a PDF of either the source document, or the target document in its current state.
  • Added user-created columns for dictionaries
    • Project Managers can now import documents with additional columns. For information about how to do this, see our Import Dictionaries article.
  • Paginated Dashboard, TM Vaults, and Projects
  • Stopped allowing translators without PM rights to be added as PMs
  • Separated Open and Closed Projects
    • The sidebar of the projects page now defaults to show only Open projects. Mousing over the text that says "Closed Projects" will display the closed projects.
  • Added Beta version of MediaWiki formatting importing and exporting
    • Plain text files with MediaWiki formatting can be imported into Lingotek, translated, and exported.
  • Added new Google Translate languages
  • Added "Go To Top" button in LingoDex
  • Segment Chooser Templates can be applied to multiple documents
  • Moved to a new leaderboard for community translators


Bugfixes

  • Documents with non-Western names can now be downloaded.
  • Restored target search in LingoDex
  • Downloaded documents now have the name given in Lingotek instead of the original name
  • Stopped reviewers from being able to get ahead of earlier translators/reviewers
  • Prioritized private dictionaries over public dictionaries

Known Issues

  • Internet Explorer 7 may have memory issues when LingoDex is open and closed multiple times causing it to hang. Closing your browser and reopening it should fix the problem. Updating to Internet Explorer 8 (or using Firefox) will prevent this problem from occurring.
  • We currently do our testing on Firefox 3.0.x and Internet Explorer 7 and 8. Other browsers may not always function as expected.
